Calvin Griffin, Jr. was born August 12, 1935, in Calhoun City, Mississippi, to the union of Adell Spencer and Dee Griffin. Calvin was educated in the public schools of Mississippi. He relocated to the Kansas City area as an adult and has made it his home for over fifty years. He was united in holy matrimony to Eloise Woodard, who preceded him in death. Calvin was employed for fifteen years at J. C. Nichol. He worked another two years at Armco Steel and also the Steel Mill in Maywood, Illinois. He retired in 1991 from the Kansas City Public School Board. Calvin enjoyed watching television, fishing and traveling. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the home. He was 74. His parents, four brothers, J. L. McCon, Troy McCon, John McCon, and Willie D. Pittman, four sisters, Mae Bell Howard, Lucille Griffin, Catherine Martinez and Ezra Mae McCon, and one stepson, Kenneth Woodard, all preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: a sister, Montrise Conley, Milwaukee, WI; two step granddaughters, Shalissa Minnenhall (Charles) and Shanell Lock; three great-grandchildren, Anthony Minnenhall, Chalise Minnenhall and Ashanti Minnenhall, all of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Willie Lee Pittman, Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, William Howard, Houston, MS; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. L. Henderson Bell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
