Hurley Edward Byers, Sr., was born on June 11, 1940 in Hattieville, Arkansas to Fred C. Byers and Emma Morton Byers. He passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the age of 68. Hurley received his education in Arkansas where he graduated with the Class of 1959 from Menifee High School in Menifee, Arkansas. He later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he married Edna L. McDaniel on September 10, 1960 and to this union three children were born. Edna departed this life May 13, 1986. He later married Sylvia J. Fleming on June 6, 1992 and four children were added to this family. Hurley was employed and retired from the Ford Motor Plant as an assembly line inspector. Hurley was a member of the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where he served with the Bus Ministry, the 100 Men Male Chorus, the Adult Sunday School and served as a coach for the baseball and softball teams. He enjoyed fishing and boating with his family and many friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sylvia J. Byers of the home; two sons Hurley E. Byers, Jr. (Sherri L.) of Phoenix, Arizona, Cornelius R. Byers (Glynnis L.) of Lee's Summit, Missouri; one daughter Karen D. Byers-Jones of Grandview, Missouri; four brothers, Jonas Byers (Jean), Moses Byers (Doris), Scipio Byers (Barbara) and Jesse F. Byers all of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Viola Garlington (Roy) of Denver, Colorado and Rose Holloway (Willis) of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; four step-children, Rickey Canady, William Fleming, Jr., Felicia and Vivian Fleming of Kansas City, Missouri; ten step-grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Fervit and Cora Lee Surratt, Chester Lee and Eliza B. Byers of Arkansas a host of nephews , nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Roosevelt, Icy, Luther, Molendy, Joe, Lillie, Lusendy and Gracie. A funeral service, under the direction of Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors, will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. at the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.
