Larry J. Prude was born February 8, 1953, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to R. B. Prude and Lillie Mae Goodman Prude. Larry was educated in the Public Schools of Blytheville and was a graduate of Blytheville High School. He relocated to Kansas City in 1971 where he has made his home for the last thirty-eight years. Larry was employed at Ford Motor Company, Clay Como Plant. He was an entrepreneur throughout the Kansas City area, a D. J. known as "Larry J", and owner of Universal Lounge. He was a promoter who promoted concerts, plays, the Universal Soul Circus, and many other venues around the city. Larry also owned his own Lawn & Tree Service and loved riding motorcycles. Larry J. was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas. He was a fun loving guy, who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a meek and kind person who always protected his family. He will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him. He departed this life on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Truman Medical Center. His parents, one brother, Lee Andrew Prude, and two sisters, Fannie Ruth Prude and Mary Ann Prude, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Lamont Rogers, Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Shelena Prude, Overland Park, KS and Christina Wilson, Kansas City, MO; fiancée, Patricia Williams, Kansas City, MO; four brothers, Welton Vample, Jr., Jerry Vample, Farmington Hills, MI, Charles B. Prude, East Moline, IL, and Charles Vample, Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Frankie Vample, Kansas City, KS and Earlie Lee, Overland Park, KS; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the chapel and Saturday from10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
