Violet Word, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri died on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the home. She was born May 2, 1924 in Slayton, Mississippi to Dudley Littlejohn and Annie Briggs. Her parents, one brother, one sister, Lillie Rose, one son, Jesse Word, Jr. (Bo), and two great grandchildren, Ratino and Javon all preceded her in death. Violet was educated in the public schools of Mississippi. She relocated to Kansas City where she would make her home for over sixty-five years. She was a maintenance worker for the Housing Authority of Kansas City. She was domestic worker throughout the city for many years. Violet was united in marriage to Jesse Word, Sr. and to this union four children were born. After over fifty years of marriage he also preceded her in death. Violet was a very loving and kind hearted person. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Virgil L. Word; two daughters, Joyce Bradley and Thelma Liggins (Marcus);one Goddaughter, Victoria; fifteen grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; seventeen great great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Church with Rev. Sharon Garfield officiating. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. ��“ 11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website.
